Jeanette Walls is a woman that grew up with a rough childhood and has had a hard time do to her dad being a drunk and her mom not wanting to be a mother. She has a few siblings and they have basically been teaching and raising there selves. The book the Glass Castle starts off while Jeanette is in a taxi and all of a sudden she saw her mother on the side of the road, digging through the garbage. She quickly was embarrassed and headed home for her apartment before her mom could see her. A little while later in the story , she meets up with her mother for lunch and she then confronts and tells her what happened. Her mother does not see why she has these thoughts and feelings and wants her to be proud of them.
